Ok, before I get to my main point, I have to go off on a tangent for a moment. We just got home from seeing the movie 2012 – and quite frankly, I have this to ask Roland Emmerich…WTF was that?
This was not a good movie. I was not expecting it to be great, but I at least hoped it would be passable. Unfortunately, it seems like Roland’s aptitude has been on a steady decline. Independence Day was an awesome movie, Day After Tomorrow was pretty good, but 2012 was just poor. There were way too many subplots and as a result you didn’t have a chance to care about any of the characters. By the time the climactic scenes occurred and you were supposed to actually give a damn, you instead were left feeling like “eh, whatever.” I wish I could say that the cool special effects made up for the pathetic script, but no, not even close. Also, I thought it was cool when Air-Force One took off amidst the exploding runway in Independence Day, I even thought it was cool tonight to see the plane take off as the Santa Monica airport crumbled into a gaping crack in the earth – but by the THIRD instance of a plane taking off during the destruction of its airport, I was over it.
But anyway, I digress. What was the point of this post? I remember now – I wanted to draw a parallel between this particular end-of-the-world movie and the fact that its possible hell has actually frozen over. You see, we’ve been convinced to go shopping on black-friday. If you’re wondering why this is a big deal you have to understand our complete aversion to lines, crowds and any sort of inconvenience. A few years ago we went to the New England Aquarium and there was a bit of a line waiting to buy tickets. We really didn’t feel like waiting in line, but we noticed that the desk where you bought an annual membership had none. To avoid the inconvenience, we went ahead and bought the membership even though we knew it would never get put to use. We really hate lines.
Anyway, our sponsors at Sam’s Club said “why don’t you go to one of the stores on Friday and then write about it?” and we said “sure”. I don’t know what we were thinking. At least we have a good reason to go, we need to pick up a TV and a Blu-Ray player, so I can look forward to a good deal on those items. What I’m not looking forward to is the volume of other people that will be there. So, if you happen to be at the Sam’s Club in Nashua on Friday, and you see an impatient, disheveled looking fellow, it will probably be me. It would be best to avoid eye-contact lest I say something impolite.
If you are better at handling these sorts of situations, then go ahead and check out some of the deals they are having. You can see the full catalog here. If you are one of the really crazy people, I’ll just remind you that they are serving complimentary breakfast to people who are shopping, starting at 5am on Friday.
For the rest of you who might be less willing to brave the post-Thanksgiving crowds, you can save yourself the pain of getting in the car by taking advantage of the deals that are already available on the website. You can check them out here.
I’m looking at this 40″ Samsung LCD TV for $598.

Don’t forget to enter the $50 Gift-Card giveaway that I posted last night and also check back on Friday for another $50 giveaway that we’ll be launching.

There is no way I would brave those crowds tomorrow…that said that Samsung looks pretty amazing for that price. Last year we got a new Samsung to replace our ancient TV in the living room and we LOVE it, Samsung is our favorite brand for TV’s bar none! Good luck tomorrow!
