I swear that this will be the last Black-Friday related post, I’m sure you are done with reading about it (ha, I’m making an assumption that people actually read this stuff). But anyway, before I drop this topic I wanted to mention a few more of the deals that you may want to check out.
While I encountered a giant dose of fail while trying to purchase a TV yesterday (I didn’t know that you can’t use American Express or Visa credit cards at Sam’s Club stores, you can use them on the website) – we were still pretty damn impressed with some of the sales that they were running.
A few of them were so good that they had to set up a little “island” in the middle of the store where you could purchase some of the best items, but they would hold on to them for you while you finished your shopping. They had to do this because these items were only available in limited quantities and they had run into problems where people would actually steal them from other people’s carts while they were not paying attention( as a side note, if you are the kind of jerk that would actually steal something from another person’s cart, please stop reading this site right now, just go away – that kind of stuff is pathetic). But speaking of limited quantities, here are a few of the items that are still available to purchase online at the sale prices.
These Samsung video SMX-C10 Camcorders (+ a 2GB SD Card) are available online for $149.16 (whats up with the .16? You see .25, .50 or .99 all the time, that is a sort of odd number). For the most part we use our iPhones when we need to make a video, we also have a cool little Flip camera, both of which are fine for taking short clips of Anna doing something silly. If you need something a little more advanced – for example, if your kid plays sports and you need something that is better at capturing high-speed action, neither the Flip nor the iPhone will cut-it. Something like this Samsung would be much better suited for the task. It also has 10x optical zoom (which is what you want – digital zoom sucks) and it can support up to a 16GB SD card, so you can easily capture an entire hockey or basketball game on one card.
Have you seen the movie The Darjeeling Limited? (I think it’s a great movie, even if the critics and most others disagree. For me, it’s Wes Anderson’s best movie since Rushmore). In that movie, the three main characters are running around
India and they are carrying this crazy custom made Louis Vuitton luggage. I can’t imagine what that would have cost (only one set was made for the movie), but a trunk similar to the one in the image to the left costs about 5,000 euro, so the whole set would be worth about 15,000 euro (at current exchange rates, that’s about $23,000).
For those of us that can’t afford such luxuries, but still need luggage to get us from point a to point b, you can find a great deal on a 3 piece set of Samsonite luggage for $76. This is an awesome deal since similar sets are available on Amazon for $150 to $500 depending on the options. You can still choose between Blue and Black, but the Red is sold out.
Some items are sold out online, but are still available in your local store. This Keurig single serve coffee maker is a good example. It’s available in stores for $129.88. If you’ve never used one of these before you should give it a try. My parents bought us one earlier this year, but we already had a really nice coffee-maker at home, so I brought mine to work where it has become the prize possession of our office.
When I think about the number of movies that we watch around here (a lot), it is somewhat surprising that we haven’t bought a Blu-ray player yet. I’m usually what you would call an “early-adopter” of new technologies, but in the case of high-definition DVDs I was waiting for a clear winner to appear in the competition between Blu-ray and HD-DVD. Obviously Blu-ray won that little battle and HD-DVD has become the Betamax of our day, but I was still unhappy with the high-price of the players. Well, prices have finally come down and we’ll be getting one for this holiday season. This Samsung Blu-Ray player for $148.86 is a nice option. It is available online and in-stores and it even comes with a free HDMI cable.
If you have wanted a GPS navigation system for your car, they still have this Garmin Nuvi 765T system available for $208.86. It features traffic alerts and integration with your Bluetooth compatible phone for hands-free dialing. That being said, once you get one of these you can no longer use “we got lost” as an excuse for missing the lame Christmas party at the house of that cousin you never really liked.
Have a kid who likes Thomas the Train? If so, then you might want to think about this Thomas the Train Metal Pedal Engine as a Christmas present from “Santa” this year. At $199.98 it isn’t cheap, but it’s heavy duty, durable stuff so it’s not going to crack and fall apart when they drive it into the side of your house. They can drive it and steer as if they were in a real train, but they power it by peddling like a bike – so they can have fun and get exercise at the same time.
So there you have it, a few of the After-Thanksgiving sale items that are still available for purchase by Sam’s Club members. You can find the entire list here. I know that some of the items on that page are sold out, but don’t fret – they’ll still have all kinds of good deals leading up to Christmas including their “special-buy of the day“. Check out the Wife’s site tomorrow since she’ll be talking about Sunday’s deal.
Also, just a reminder that we have two $50 gift-card giveaways going on right now, you can find the details here and here if you haven’t entered already. We’ll also be starting another $25 giveaway tomorrow and later in the week we’ll be starting up a $100 giveaway. One last thing – we’ll be launching a short “gift-guide” along with a bunch of related giveaways later on this week. We’ve had a chance to review a lot of great products over the past year and we went back to the makers of some of our favorites and asked them to participate, so we’ll be giving away some really cool stuff.
